ZACHARY — The Zachary Police Department is hosting a fundraiser event to help a part of the ZPD family.
ZPD is hosting a BBQ fundraiser on June 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Khloe Sanders, the daughter of Zachary Detective Enoch Sims and Keva Sims.
The fundraiser will be held in the Zachary City Hall parking lot. Walkup orders will be accepted.
“It gives us an opportunity to show support to one of our own,” said Zachary Police Chief Darryl Lawrence. “They’ll run into a lot of expenses making the trips back and forth to St. Jude’s. We just want to help out.”

Sanders, 13, had surgery to remove a brain tumor on May 17 at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
She will be a freshman at Central High School. She recently made the school’s dance team and dances at Rave Studio.
Three weeks before having the surgery, Sanders began having seizures and was taken to the emergency room, where the benign tumor was discovered in her left temporal lobe.
According to Sanders’ family, St. Jude’s won’t cover the cost of travel and hotel stay for the family because the teen’s tumor was benign. Sanders has to travel to the hospital every three months for follow-ups.
The proceeds from Friday’s fundraiser will help cover Sanders’ medical expenses.
Donations can also be made at the Bank of Zachary. The account name is “Dancing for Khloe.”
“We ask that the community come out and support,” Lawrence said. “We’ll accept anybody who wants too come through and pick up a plate.”
