Bank robbery suspect arrested after I-10 crash, charged with carjacking Thursday night

BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a bank robbery suspect was arrested following a pursuit and crash on I-10 Friday.

Jonathan Lanaute, 39, is charged with 1st degree robbery and aggravated flight from an officer for today’s bank robbery and pursuit. He was also charged with armed robbery for a carjacking Thursday night on Fountain Ave. Deputies say Lanaute stole a food delivery man’s vehicle during that incident.

Friday’s bank robbery happened around 9 a.m. at the United Community Bank on Bluebonnet. Investigators say that Lanaute passed the teller a note demanding money. The teller gave him an undisclosed amount of cash before he fled.

Deputies spotted Lanaute on Highland Rd. about an hour later, and when they attempted to pull him over he attempted to flee and hit a vehicle while on I-10 near Perkins. The driver of that vehicle had minor injuries.

Sources tell UWK Lanaute may have been traveling the wrong way on the interstate at the time of the crash. We’re also told that all of the money allegedly stolen was recovered.

Lanaute reportedly took off on foot after the crash and was arrested a short time later. Deputies believe Lanaute may also be responsible for several other crimes including shootings and robberies.
