TPSO investigating claim that teen fathered teacher’s child

HAMMOND — The Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations that a 17-year-old fathered a child with a Tangipahoa Parish School System employee.

Officials received the report on Sept. 24, and sheriff’s office juvenile detectives began investigating the claim. Because a juvenile is involved, the sheriff’s office will not release more information.

“While we cannot share specific details regarding the investigation, we can confirm that the allegations were dealt with promptly, and the investigation process has been rigorous and thorough,” said Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards. “This type of investigation is time-consuming and is being handled with great care. Under no circumstances will we be rushed for closure.”

A school system representative confirmed the teacher at the center of the investigation resigned.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
