State Police identify man killed in deputy-involved shooting as 25-year-old Gonzales man

GONZALES — Louisiana State Police are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Ascension Parish that took place early Monday morning at the intersection of Burnside Avenue and West Orice Roth Road in Gonzales. Officials have now released the deceased’s identification.

He has been identified as Abdulrahman Ali, 25, of Gonzales. State Police say Ali “exited the vehicle holding a pistol. Despite multiple verbal commands from officers to drop the weapon, Ali discharged the firearm into the air and then pointed the gun in the direction of officers. In response, APSO deputies and the GPD officer fired their weapons, striking Ali.”

Ali was transported to a hospital and died of his injuries.

Sources tell UWK that Ali was a former employee of a gas station on Burnside. Although he no longer worked there, he returned around midnight on Feb. 10 to collect his final paycheck. At some point, he allegedly held up the cashier and stole money from the register. After the reported robbery, he went into the parking lot and fired multiple shots with some striking the gas station, others fired into the air, according to sources.

Authorities were alerted to a suspect fleeing in a vehicle following the armed robbery. Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Gonzales PD officers found the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

UWK received multiple reports of a heavy police presence on Burnside, including units from State Police, APSO and Gonzales Police. Several blocks were taped off as the investigation unfolded.

Per standard procedure, an outside agency is called in to investigate whenever an officer or deputy is involved in a shooting.

State Police are asking anyone with information, photos, or video footage to report it anonymously by submitting a tip online or calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1 (800) 434-8007.

  1. This story is fabricated and states many false claims. I highly suggest you add in these edits.

The gas station owner owes him over $45,000 and refused to hand it over WHATSOEVER. When he was told that the owner is not there, he left and fired 2 shots outside of the gas station out of anger- while being aware of his surroundings.

When he arrived to the second gas station ( where police officers followed him), He exited the car and fired a bullet into the air-NEVER aiming his gun at the police officers.

He then sat on the trunk of his car with his gun either laying near him or in his hand ( unsure) and was explaining to them that he will not surrender and has a right to money that sweated for.

That was when he was suddenly fired with MULTIPLE shots.

This was all after he asked to receive help from multiple organizations and was ignored.

To gain respect in the journalism industry, please be cautious of what you post and add in these edits to your article. You sound very heartless toward the 25- year old Abdulrahman Ali who caused no injuries whatsoever and unfortunately felt the need to threaten the store owners who owed him a large sum of money during a vulnerable time in his life.

He did not need to be killed but rather helped with support and mental health.
