Truck crashes into home in Central after high-speed chase through Livingston Parish

CENTRAL — A high-speed chase through Livingston Parish ended with a 40-yr-old driving a truck crashing into a home in Central, UWK has learned.

The pursuit started when deputies tried to stop Ronnie D. Spence, 40, of Denham Springs, for large quantities for illegal narcotics, according to LPSO. However, the driver instead engaged in a high-speed chase.

“He refused to stop & fled northbound on LA Hwy 16 to the red light in Watson, then, westbound on 1019 until reaching Magnolia Bridge & heading into EBR,” said LPSO.

The chase crossed into Central and down Magnolia Bridge ending in the Magnolia Lakes neighborhood off Wax Rd. The driver lost control and plowed through the front of a house around 2 p.m.

LPSO says Spence then allegedly jumped from his truck while it was still running.

He was arrested. LPSO’s search led to a firearm & several drugs – including fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine & steroids, said authorities. He is also wanted out of Georgia and Florida on drug charges.

The homeowners were not at the home at the time of the crash.

Witnesses tell UWK that they were nearly run off Wax Rd. as the chase reached high speeds.

A witness, who asked to only use her first name Taylor, tells UWK she was nearly hit in the pursuit. “I didn’t see it coming because he was going so fast, I didn’t realize what happened until after the fact. He was trying to gain back control of his vehicle crossing the intersection, which was a red light for him. When I saw the cop following not far behind I realized it was a high speed chase. I don’t know how he didn’t hit me, he could have seriously hurt my daughter & myself, or worse. People can’t even pick their kids up from school during the day anymore without worrying about something terrible happening because of the selfish actions of others.”
