Two jump from vehicle during pursuit spanning several parishes

It was around 4:30am when Baton Rouge Police Officers attempted to make a traffic stop and instead, were led on a 60+ mile pursuit spanning several parishes.

Officers tried to stop the driver near Brightside Dr. and Alvin Dark Ave. The driver refused to stop and headed towards L’Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge. When the driver hit one of the roundabouts at the casino, he was forced to a very slow speed. That’s when two passengers jumped out of the vehicle. It’s unclear at this time if the ladies were in the vehicle by choice or were forced into the vehicle sometime earlier in the night.

The driver continued running from officers through multiple parishes on I-10 eastbound towards New Orleans.

Multiple agencies from EBRSO, Ascension SO, State Police and St. James SO were notified of the driver so they could set up spike strips to try and stop the driver.

Two separate sets of spikes were put out. After the driver hit the first set, he continued even with a damaged tire. Then, near LaPlace, he hit another set of spikes forcing a rim to fall off his vehicle. That caused the driver to crash on the Bonnet Carre Spillway. He was arrested and booked as a fugitive and will be transported back to East Baton Rouge to face charges.

Two BRPD police cars were damaged when the vehicle hit the spike strips sending debris flying at the units. One police car had a damaged tire and the second unit had a leaking radiator.

No officers were injured in the pursuit.

The two ladies who jumped from the vehicle are okay as well.
